The rain may have kicked off the evening with a drenched red carpet but inside the Virgin TV British Academy Awards, there were big smiles as the winners were announced.

TV shows hoping to pick up an award or two include Netflix’s drama The Crown, which has scooped five nominations including a Leading Actress nod for Foy, and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, is nominated in the Best Entertainment Programme, up against Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing.
