These pieces of broken glass likely show the colors of Apple’s iPhone XR sequel

Last night, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted an image of broken glass shards that seemingly reveal some of the new colors Apple has planned for the follow-up to its iPhone XR. The familiar black, white, and yellow colors are back, but there are also green and purple pieces in the mix. These look like they could be discarded manufacturing parts or glass panels that failed quality assurance testing.

As Gurman notes in his tweet, both of those new options, which are said to replace the current coral and blue colors, were first reported by Japanese blog Mac Otakara last week. It’s likely that Apple will again produce a Product RED version as well, though it’s not seen in this image. The company seems to be going for a more muted and pastel selection this time around.

The iPhone XR’s successor is expected to feature a dual-lens rear camera system, while otherwise retaining the same overall design of last year’s phone. Yesterday, Gurman also posted an image of alleged case moldings for all three 2019 iPhones, which depicts three rear cameras on both top-tier models.

The iPhone XR remains the best choice for most people who are upgrading to one of Apple’s newer phones, offering the core technology of the flagship handsets — and the best battery life of any iPhone ever — for less money than the iPhone XS and XS Max. Apple’s latest XR ad highlights that battery endurance. The next iPhone lineup should be announced sometime in September.
