Laura Dern stands out in green World Lovers dress in NYC

Laura Dern wore a fun green dress with a belt that read World Lovers as she hit the BUILD series in New York City on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old actress was joined by her Trial By Fire cast mate Jack O’Connell as well as the film’s director Edward Zwick and screenwriter Geoffrey S Fletcher.

This comes after the acting vet looked tormented while being held by her husband during a scene in the trailer for Big Little Lies 2.

At BUILD, Dern was the definition of elegance in her bright green button down dress that went over her knees in an A line cut.

The top portion had one pocket and a collar with short sleeves. And the daughter of acting vet Bruce Dern added playful, pointy heels.

The Rambling Rose actress wore her hair down and she had on flattering makeup.

Hoop earrings made the critically acclaimed actress look on trend.

In the trailer for BLL 2, Dern was seen on the verge of tears as her screen husband hugs her.

The clip was full of drama. Meryl Streep wants answers and the 69-year-old acclaimed actress could be seen grilling Nicole Kidman‘s character over the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.

The trailer opened with Reese Witherspoon’s acid-tongued socialite character Madeline telling her daughter’s school principal to ‘shove it’.

In the trailer’s opening scene, Principal Warren Nippal (played by P.J. Byrne) told Madeline she’s ‘not the only parent complaining, just by far the loudest’.

Another parent then offered the diminutive but quick-witted blonde a cupcake, which she readily accepted.

‘I don’t even like to chew, I just shove it down… maybe you can give one to Warren, so he can shove it too.’

‘Oh… and we’re off,’ the school administrator commented dryly.

A montage of quick-cut images then showed Reese’s character dancing and drinking with the other main mothers from season one of the show.

These include Nicole Kidman’s Celeste Wright, Dern’s Renata Klein, Zoe Kravitz’s Bonnie Carlson and Shailene Woodley’s Jane Chapman.

The women were collectively referred to as ‘the Monterey Five’ in the first trailer for the new season, a reference to the Californian seaside community in which the women all live.

‘It’s a classy crop of moms, these ones,’ Principal Nippal can be heard to comment sarcastically, over images of the Monterey Five sipping champagne at a costume party.

The principal then described Dern’s high-strung socialite as ‘the Medusa of Monterey’.

This over images of Renata posing for a photo shoot out by her pool, before cutting to a scene of Renata berating Nippal in his office.

‘I will squash you like the bug that you are,’ ranted Dern’s character.

We then see Madeline’s husband Ed Mackenzie (played by Adam Scott) dryly comment: ‘Let the second grade begin’.

‘It’s gonna get us. It’s gonna get us all,’ an anxious Bonnie told Madeline in one moment from the trailer.

‘Who are you talking about?’ Madeline asked, apparently perplexed.

‘The lie,’ replied Kravitz’s character.

The lie to which she referred was a pivotal moment in the show’s first season, in which all five women banded together to help cover up the suspicious death of Celeste’s husband Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgård).

A flashback to that season showed Bonnie clearly pushing Perry down the set of stairs where he met his demise.

This new trailer showed Detective Adrienne Quinlan investigating Perry’s death, who, according to Madeline, ‘is trying to put the pressure onto us until one of us breaks’.

And it wasn’t the only area from which the women received pressure.

In the trailer’s most powerful scene, Celeste’s mother-in-law Mary Louise Wright (played by three-time Academy Award winner Streep) grilled Celeste about what really befell Perry that night.

‘You don’t believe my son just slipped,’ began Mary Louise, ominously.

‘I gave you answers,’ replied Kidman’s character.

‘Yes, but you left things out, didn’t you?’ retorted Mary Louise.

‘You were planning to leave him. And you learned of his infidelity just ten seconds before he died.’

‘Oh, you left that out, too,’ she concluded, before the trailer ends.

Big Little Lies is set to return to HBO on June 9 and will see the addition of Meryl Streep as Mary Louise, a woman determined to get to the bottom of a death that rocked the group in its inaugural season.

According to Kidman, Meryl signed up for the show without even reading the script.

She instead sent an email to Nicole, who co-produces Big Little Lies with Reese, after it won a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film in 2017 and insisted she had to join them.
