Apple Card is now available to all iPhone owners in the US: Firm expands roll-out of virtual payment system and promises 3% cash back for Uber and Uber Eats

Apple has officially launched its branded credit card for customers in the United States after previewing it for select users at the beginning of the month.

Starting today, those interested can apply to get an Apple Card through the Wallet app.

Once approved, you can start using the card right away in the app, though customers also have the option of getting the physical, titanium Apple Card.

The wider roll-out starting today also comes with extensions to Apple’s ‘Daily Cash’ perks, including 3 percent cash back on Uber and Uber Eats transactions.

HOW DOES APPLE CARD WORK? 

The Apple Card will exist as a virtual credit card in the Wallet app.

Once you’ve applied and been approved, you can start using it right away. 

It generates virtual numbers that are stored in a secure chip inside the iPhone, Apple says.

That means for those who opt to get the physical card, there’s no number displayed on the surface.

Apple says there are no late or annual fees, or charges for international and over-the-limit purchases.

Apple began rolling out its virtual credit card at the beginning of August, first releasing it only to a limited-number of customers.

The payment system, issued in partnership with Goldman Sachs and MasterCard, ditches the typical lengthy card number and instead generates virtual numbers that are stored in a secure chip inside the iPhone.

That means the physical Apple Card has no number displayed on its matte surface.

Weeks after the small release, the firm is now launching Apple Card nationwide.

‘We’re thrilled with the overwhelming interest in Apple Card and its positive reception,’ Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay, said in a statement today.

‘Customers have told us they love Apple Card’s simplicity and how it gives them a better view of their spending.’

In addition to rewards for Uber purchases, the card also comes with 2 percent Daily Cash for Apple Card purchase made with Apple Pay and 3 percent Daily Cash on purchases made from the Apple store or its online services.

Purchases made with the physical credit card will have 1 percent Daily Cash perk.

According to Apple, there are no annual or late fees, or charges for international and over-the-limit purchases.

The app will also act as a visual guide to plan out your spending and payments, with weekly and monthly spending summaries.

And, Apple says it will keep your activity private.

‘The unique security and privacy architecture created for Apple Card means Apple does not know where a customer shopped, what they bought or how much they paid,’ the firm said in a release.

‘Apple is partnering with Goldman Sachs as its issuing bank. Goldman Sachs will never share or sell data to third parties for marketing and advertising.’
