Grimes and Elon Musk have made headlines after attending last night’s Met Gala together.
The SpaceX CEO/Tesla co-founder and the musician (real name Claire Boucher) have been involved in a Twitter exchange recently – after Grimes beat Musk to making a joke about Artificial Intelligence and the character Rococo Basilisk.
Rococo Basilisk was one of the characters created by Grimes in 2015 for her video for ‘Flesh Without Blood’.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard of Roko’s Basilisk,” she told Fuse. “[This character] is doomed to be eternally tortured by an artificial intelligence, but she’s also kind of like Marie Antoinette.”
Having been a very vocal fan of Grimes’ work, Musk then attempted to contact her to discuss her ideas.
“Elon was researching the idea of joking about Rococo Basilisk, and when he saw Grimes had already joked about it, he reached out to her,” a source told Page Six. “Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI.”
They added: “Musk is well known for warning of an AI apocalypse, calling it “more dangerous than nukes.”
The pair then indulged in various Twitter exchanges about space, music and culture.
As well as collaborating with Janelle Monae on ‘PYNK‘ from her acclaimed new album ‘Dirty Computer‘, Grimes has also teased new music made with Youtube sensation Poppy.
She also claims to have a “deep well of shit” when it comes to new material of her own.
“I just took a month off,” she told fans earlier this year, adding that “a lot of insane shit went down and I’m reorienting my whole life”.
“I think now I’m screwing my head back on,” she added. “Can finish [the album] fast and I have a deep well of shit this time, like sooooo many songs so after my album I’ll be able to consistently release more music.”
