A mother and son from upstate New York were arrested on Friday by state troopers who allegedly found some 200 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.

Kelly Heald, 51, and Corey Heald, 29, of Massena were arrested for criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree.

The crime is a Class C felony, which means that if convicted they could face a maximum of 15 years in state prison.

New York State Police posted a photograph of the seized marijuana.

It shows seven large bags, most of them are normally used for hockey equipment, filled with what appears to be marijuana.

According to state police, a trooper conducted a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway not far from the border with Massachusetts.

After troopers stopped the vehicle, a dog was deployed to detect suspicious substances.

The search led to the seizure of the marijuana.

The two suspects were arraigned before a court in Livingston, New York, which is about 40 miles south of the state capital, Albany.

They were remanded to Columbia County Jail without bail.
