Lonely beagle adopts an adorable baby possum after losing a litter of puppies

A bereaved beagle who tragically lost her litter of puppies has formed an unlikely relationship with an adorable baby possum.

Molly the beagle was still grieving the loss of her pups when she walked into the family home at Gazette in southwest Victoria with a cute baby possum on her back.

‘They’ve been inseparable ever since,’ Molly’s owner, Elle Moyle, told 9News on Tuesday.

The nocturnal critter simply jumped onto Molly’s back and made her self at home, and the pair have been inseparable ever since, Ms Moyle said.

Despite being from different parts of the animal kingdom, their special bond serves two purposes for the bushy friends – to be loved and needed.

Ms Moyle said it was almost as if the baby possum thought Molly was her mother and, likewise, the lonely beagle seemingly adopted the lost possum.

Molly’s usually playful mood had changed somewhat since losing her pups, but after forming the alliance she is happier than ever, her other owner Sara Moyle said.

The beagle's owners aren't sure how long the 'paw-some' relationship will last, but for now they couldn't be happier for Molly and her adopted bub

‘It’s certainly uplifted her mood, they both needed each other I think so it’s been a fantastic relationship,’ Sara said.

While the nocturnal possum sleeps in a nearby tree during the day, when it does make an appearance, it usually heads straight for Molly’s back.

‘Molly just sits under the tree where she’s sleeping and just waits for her,’ Ms Moyle said.
