Perth man Anthony Robert Harvey was yesterday charged with five counts of murder after the body of his 41-year-old wife Mara, and those of their three children and the children’s grandmother were found in their Bedford home on Sunday.
Mara’s sister Taryn has released a statement on behalf of the family.
“This world is a sadder place with the loss of these five beautiful people but Heaven has gained five new angels,” she wrote.
Mara’s body was discovered alongside her three-year-old Charlotte Kate Harvey, two-year-old twins Alice Ester and Beatrix Mae Harvey, and her mother 73-year-old Beverley Ann Quinn.
“Mara loved being a mum and she loved her girls,” Taryn wrote.
“She was so proud of each of them and was doing a great job of raising them. Her girls were her world.”
Anthony Robert Harvey, 24, faced court yesterday accused of murdering his wife and her children at their home last Monday, September 3, and killing Quinn in the same house the next day.
“Beverley was a kind-hearted, caring mother and grandmother and was always there for her family,” Taryn wrote. “She was very much family-orientated and she loved her daughters and grandchildren, and would have done anything for them.
“Charlotte was an energetic, bubbly, confident little girl who loved people and loved socialising. Alice was outgoing, adventurous and cheeky, while Beatrix was at times a little bit more quiet but gave the biggest hugs.”
Anthony Robert Harvey has not been required to enter a plea and will appear in court again on September 19.
Western Australia Police commissioner Chris Dawson said blunt instruments and knives were used in the crimes, but no firearms were involved.
Dawson said police will allege he remained in the house on Coode Street for several days after the alleged murders, before travelling to the remote Pilbara town of Pannawonica and reporting it to police.
This is the third mass murder in Western Australia in the past five months.
In July a mother and her two children were murdered in Ellenbrook. In May, a mother, her four children and their two grandparents were killed in a murder-suicide in Osmington in the state’s southwest.
