Former Premier League star Jlloyd Samuel killed in car crash


Former Aston Villa and Bolton footballer Jlloyd Samuel has died in a car crash at the age of 37.

The ex-Premier League star’s death was announced by the football association of Trinidad and Tobago, the country he represented at international level.

“We’ve received some terrible news that former National defender and Ex-Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player Jlloyd Samuel died in a car crash this morning in England,” it said in a statement on Facebook.

“According to reports, Jlloyd was returning home after dropping his kids off to school and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

“His vehicle caught fire and his body was discovered burnt.”

The Trinidad and Tobago FA said it and Samuel’s former national teammates “extends deepest condolences to his family members both in the UK and here in Trinidad and Tobago”.

Samuel played 169 times for Aston Villa between 1998 and 2007.

The full back left Villa Park to join Bolton, where he played 71 times until 2011.
