A man has been arrested after a suspicious vehicle was stopped near Buckingham Palace, police say.

Officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on Birdcage Walk at the junction with Spur Road at 7.51am, just metres from the palace gates.

The vehicle, a white Ford Transit, was stopped and the driver was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A vehicle was stopped and a man in his early 30s arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. The vehicle he was driving, a white Ford Transit, was deemed suspicious.

“Road closures and cordons are in place while the vehicle is assessed.”
