Anthony Mundine, 43, challenges Jeff Horn to a fight on home soil

Following Jeff Horn’s painful defeat to Terence Crawford in Las Vegas, the Australian boxing star has been offered an unusual challenge on his home turf.

Outspoken boxing legend Anthony Mundine, 43, reached out to congratulate 30-year-old Horn on Sunday after the brutal defeat.

Mundine tweeted: ‘Tough day in the office for Jeff today but credit to him for taking on one of the best fighters on the planet. Hope he recovers quickly!’

His tweet was followed shortly after by an open challenge to a session in the ring together, a match-up his manager described as ‘mouth-watering’.

It comes after Mundine’s adviser Emaid Dib’s tweet on Saturday night that read:

‘Credit to Jeff Horn always doing Australia proud! After tonight I am confident Anthony Mundine would give Horn a lot of trouble. Mouth-watering domestic fight!’

Punters are hoping for a match between the two Australian boxing stars in Suncorp Stadium later this year.

But the 30-year-old’s promoter Dean Lonergan has expressed he isn’t too sure on the idea given Mundine is now 43.

On Saturday night Jeff Horn lost his WBO world welterweight title to Terence Crawford.

Horn’s father admitted that the American boxer fought well but Jeff will readily bounce back.

‘Crawford fought a very good tactical fight and as much Jeff tried to put the pressure on him, Crawford’s counter punches were more precise,’ Jeffery Horn’s father told The Courier Mail.

He added: ‘Jeff will come back from this. He has an enormous heart but we will have to sit down and very carefully plan his next move.’

Despite controversy surrounding the referee’s call to end the fight, Jeff Horn told media after his defeat to the American boxer on Sunday he would be up for a rematch to swipe back his title.
