An earthquake has rattled a large area of southern California.
The tremor, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5, struck shortly before 5am (1pm UK time) on Tuesday about 100 miles (160km) east of Los Angeles, near the rural area of Cabazon.
People from the desert to the Pacific coast reported feeling the quake, with some saying they were woken up it.
Codi Layne tweeted that her “couch just started shaking”, while Evan McCarthy said the quake “shook the house with a single jolt”, followed by a “little shaking”.
Ed Joyce said a jolt was heard “just now” in “Huntington Beach”.
There were no immediate reports of serious damage.
