Man, 21, accused of killing his bride-to-be's baby boy

An Ohio man is accused of killing his bride-to-be’s baby boy just a few days before they got married.

Justin T. Layne, 21, was looking after six-month-old Braydon M. Perry on November 25 last year, when his fiance came home to find her son seriously wounded. He died in hospital four days later.

The coroner ruled the child’s death a homicide and found he had died from blunt force trauma after the ‘child’s head was struck by/against an object repeatedly,’ the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Despite the death of her son, Layne’s fiance Valerie agreed to marry Justin just ten days later.

And she’s standing by him, even after his arrest on Thursday for endangering children and murder.

She released a statement Friday morning: ‘No parent should have to deal with a tragedy of losing a child.

‘This was a tragic accident. With what I know it could have happened to anyone.

‘I support my husband and strongly believe he would never purposely hurt our son. Please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers while we go though this horrible nightmare. Mommy loves you Braydon and misses you soooo much!!!’

Layne, of the 5000 block of Aurora Street Northwest, remains in jail Friday, held without bond pending his arraignment hearing July 20 in Stark County Common Pleas Court.

‘This is a terrible case, the murder of an infant. Our task force moved quickly to make the arrest on this case and work for justice for the innocent victim,’ U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said.

Township police were contacted by hospital staff at Akron Children’s Hospital on November 25, after Braydon was brought in with ‘injuries consistent with abuse’.

Valerie, who got engaged to Justin last August, said that she was still looking for answers but was confused as to why police had waited eight months after her son’s autopsy to arrest her husband.

‘I still don’t know really what happened. Justin told me his story, and he told the police officers, but talking to the prosecutor and finding out the medical examiner’s stuff … all this is new information for me.’
