MCSO: Deputies seize half a million dollars worth of marijuana during I-10 traffic stop | News

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Deputies with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office seized almost a half-million dollars worth of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 Friday, according to the MCSO.

Deputies pulled over a rental car traveling from Colorado to Miami around 11 a.m., and they detained the driver. He has been identified as 24-year-old Adrain Jacob Macias. According to the jail log, Macias is from Baytown, Texas.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 110 pounds of high-grade marijuana were found inside the vehicle.

Deputies also seized about 1200 packs of THC vape juice during the traffic stop.

Captain Paul Burch with MCSO said the I-10 corridor is a major drug trafficking route, but it won’t be tolerated here.

Burch said the drugs contained a high concentration of THC. Virginia Guy with the Drug Education Council said the substance, which is in marijuana, can be problematic in excess.

“With these kind of products, the higher concentration of THC, the more dangerous it can be. THC in low concentrations has a very different effect than THC in low concentrations,” she said.

Guy added that THC can be especially detrimental in the hands of children. She said vape products are common among teenagers.

“The pathways of the brain are being developed and if the high levels of THC actually get in those brain pathways, it can actually set the person up for addiction later on in life,” Guy explained.
