Stephen King slammed for tweet about Melania Trump's kidney surgery

Stephen King ignited a social media firestorm when he made a joke about Melania Trump’s hospital stay following kidney surgery.

On Tuesday, the White House released a statement announcing that the First Lady underwent surgery on Monday for a benign kidney condition. The statement said she would remain hospitalized for the rest of the week.

King, who has spoken out against Trump on multiple occasions, jumped on Twitter to take a jab at the president but was slammed for his ‘hateful’ remark about Melania’s condition.

‘Not to be snarky,’ King tweeted, ‘but Melania can probably use a week’s rest from Blabbermouth Don. Sounds heavenly to me.’

Fans and critics immediately lashed out at King calling his tweet ‘disgraceful’ and ‘hateful’.

‘You know. I’ve been a fan of yours since I was in high school and read Christine for the first time. Now, I just feel sorry for you so full of hate and for what?’ Twitter user Cindy Frazier tweeted.

‘I’m sure when Mr King was injured and in the hospital his wife would have appreciated similar comments,’ user Jbooth wrote. ‘Have a little respect and compassion.’

Another Twitter user said he was no longer a fan of King’s.

‘Well, I used to be a fan,’ Ed Koeb tweeted. ‘Fortunately, there are plenty of other talented authors that may have a clue that some of his or her readers actually support our/your President. Not snarky, trashy.’

‘Stephen King you are losing what little you have left of your facilities (sic) … what happened to you?’ Twitter user Matthew Brady posted. ‘No one, of your caliber, bashed the former President or his family like.’ There is dislike, but be civil my man. … former fan of yours.’

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, Trump wrote that Melania was in ‘good spirits’ following her surgery.

‘Our great First Lady is doing really well. Will be leaving hospital in 2 or 3 days. Thank you for so much love and support,’ Trump tweeted.
