Students at Meghan Markle's LA high school celebrate her wedding

The royal wedding may still be days away, but Meghan Markle’s fomer high school is using it as an excuse to celebrate.

Meghan’s alma mater, the Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, threw a special celebration on Tuesday in honor of one of its most famous former students.

Hundreds of girls gathered for the ‘Here’s to Meghan’ event, where they toasted the soon-to-be princess and Prince Harry with cookies, tea, and lemonade.

Many of the students were happy to get in the spirit for the occasion, sporting tiaras or decorating themselves with both British and American flags.

Some girls wore large hats in a reference to the festive headwear sported at British weddings, while others teased their hair sky high to resemble the headpieces.

The school posed with a British flag for a group photo and even hung the Union Jack next to the Stars and Stripes on its balcony.

There was even a corgi in attendance, no doubt a salute the Queen of England’s beloved dogs.

Girls hugged, cheered, and danced as they celebrated Meghan, who graduated from the all-girls Catholic school in 1999.

Meghan went to both middle and high school at Immaculate Heart and has joined the ranks of famous alumnae that include Tyra Banks and Mary Tyler Moore.

The future actress got her start in theatrical productions at both Immaculate and nearby Loyola High School.

And, in her senior year, Meghan was chosen by the school to serve as a student leader for her class’ ‘Kairos retreat’.

The honor is given to students who are ‘known for their empathy as well as their abilities to listen and guide students’, according to Immaculate’s website.

And Meghan’s school isn’t the only Los Angeles institution catching royal fever.

The city’s famous Pinks Hot Dogs has also created a special menu item in honor of their hometown princess’ big day, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Pinks’ ‘Royal Dog’ will feature two hots dogs in one bun that is topped with mustard, cheese, pickle relish, onion, Pink’s chili, and two slices of bacon.

Amid all the joyous celebration, a devastating family crisis has been brewing for the last few days as it has been revealed Meghan’s father won’t be attending the wedding.

Thomas Markle, 73, revealed he cannot fly to England and walk his daughter down the aisle because he needs to have major heart surgery on Wednesday.

Mr Markle told TMZ that doctors will ‘go in and clear blockage, repair damage, and put a stent where it is needed’ during the operation.

He also revealed he believes his heart attack was triggered by an open letter that his son, Thomas Jr, wrote trying to convince Prince Harry not to marry Meghan.

The surgery seems to be the final end to a roller coaster of speculation surrounding whether Mr Markle would attend the royal wedding, just hours after it seemed Meghan had convinced her father to change his mind and walk her down the aisle.

Mr Markle astonishingly pulled out of the royal wedding on Monday, saying he didn’t want to embarrass his daughter any further after the Mail on Sunday revealed he had staged paparazzi photos for money.

On Tuesday it seemed he had backtracked on his decision after the bride-to-be pleaded with him to come to England.

But that very same day, Meghan’s father said he had to return to the hospital after suffering chest pains.

Mr Markle said a battery of tests found that the heart attack had done ‘significant damage’ and revealed he needed immediate surgery.

But Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland will still be by her side, and is now speculated to be the likely choice to walk her down the aisle.

Ragland, 61, was seen being picked up by an SUV at her California home before heading to Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, where she was dropped off at a private entrance.
