It’s the sort of secret that might leave Donald Trump red-faced – were it not for his famously orange complexion.
The US President keeps a tanning bed in the White House to maintain his very distinctive hue, according to a former member of his staff.
This is just one of a list of claims made by Omarosa Manigault Newman in a book lifting the lid on her former boss that threatens to reduce what’s left of Trump’s reputation to tatters – and could even destroy his presidency.

Manigault Newman also claims Trump repeatedly uses the racially offensive N-word, including on an occasion when he was taped, and has threatened to reveal the names of illegitimate children he has allegedly fathered.

She recounts how Trump battled to have a tanning bed installed when he moved into the White House.

This was despite objections from White House chief usher, Angella Reid, who served under President Obama and was the first black woman to hold the post. Ms Reid was sacked just months later.
White House sources said they have not seen a tanning bed in the building. If one is there, it may be in the basement.
Manigault Newman’s book also alleges how Trump made a farcical effort to sell copies of his book Trump: The Art Of The Deal at his inauguration as President in January last year.
According to her, Trump suggested he was sworn in over the book instead of the Bible.
She recalls him saying: ‘Omarosa, what do you think about me getting sworn in on The Art Of The Deal?’
She then asked: ‘Instead of the Bible?’ before Mr Trump supposedly replied: ‘Yeah. The Art Of The Deal is a bestseller! It’s the greatest business book of all time.
‘It’s how I’m going to make great deals for the country. Just think how many copies I’d sell – maybe a commemorative inauguration copy!’
She told him to forget about it and writes that ‘we laughed, he wanted me to believe he was kidding’.
Mr Trump was sworn in using two Bibles; his own and one used at Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration in 1861.
Manigault Newman, 44, met Trump in 2004 when she was a candidate on the American version of The Apprentice, which he hosted.

After his election she joined his administration as communications director for the Office of Public Liaison before leaving in January.
She says that during his time at The Apprentice Trump used the N-word ‘multiple times’ and, according to three sources she knows, there is a tape to prove it.
She said: ‘I was told exactly what Donald Trump said – yes, the N-word and others in a classic Trump-goes-nuclear rant – and when he’s said them.
‘During production he was miked, and there is definitely an audio track. Using the N-word was not just the way he talks but, more disturbing, it was how he thought of me and African-Americans as a whole.’
The book also claims that Mr Trump behaves ‘like a dog off the leash’ at events he attends without his wife, Melania.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said: ‘This book is riddled with lies and false accusations. It’s sad that a disgruntled former White House employee is trying to profit off these false attacks.’
