‘The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart.

‘I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.’

The Me Before You star explained her time on the show has ‘shaped [her] as a woman, as an actor and as a human being’.

Emilia then said she wished her father, who passed away from cancer in July 2016, had been here to see ‘how far we’ve flown’.

‘But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you there is no us.’

Emilia ended her tribute with a poignant nod to a line said by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) when he walked away from his command of the Night’s Watch.

She said: ‘And now our watch has ended.’

The emotional tributes come after Sophie confessed a lot of people will be ‘upset’ by the much-anticipated finale of the epic when it airs on Sunday.

She told Sunday Times Magazine ahead of the finale: ‘It’s a great ending, from my perspective, it’s very satisfying.

‘But I think a lot of people will be upset too. I’ve just told [her husband] Joe. But he’s so mad at me – he loves the show!’

The finale is expected to sweep the globe after penultimate episode The Bells was the most-watched episode of the HBO series ever.

It got more than approximately 600,000 more views than the next most-watched episode which is the third episode of season eight The Long Night.

According to HBO, the episodes from this final installment of the premium cable channel’s hit fantasy series average 43million viewers each; that’s more than 10million viewers more viewers each episode than season seven, reported THR.

As well as fears they will be disappointed, fans have been panicking because spoilers have been leaked online and now are reportedly circulating via text message.

Deadline report that a text message is circulating online containing ‘several legitimate spoilers for last week’s show and an equal number of previews of the finale.’

These spoilers were first seen on a Reddit post that summarised each episode in the final series, including the yet to be seen episode six.
